The line and the chat
Jeu : aide et référence, in English Gambling: Help and Referral, answers at 1-800-461-0140 anywhere in Québec. In the Montréal area the number is 514-527-0140. Both lines run 24/7. Calls are free, confidential and bilingual, in French or English.
For those who would rather type than talk, a chat runs at aidejeu.ca. It is open to Québec residents only. No text-message line was found.
Since November 15, 1993, the line has been run by the Information and Referral Centre of Greater Montréal. The Québec Ministry of Health and Social Services funds it. Loto-Québec venues print the same number, 1-800-461-0140, and Playground shows it in its website footer.
Self-exclusion
Loto-Québec casinos and gaming halls run a voluntary self-exclusion program. It is enforced with facial recognition for people who consent.
Signing happens in person, at Loto-Québec offices in Montréal or Québec City, or at any casino or gaming hall. Customers of lotoquebec.com can self-exclude from their own account. The length is chosen at sign-up and cannot be cancelled afterwards. A self-exclusion from the venues also blocks the lotoquebec.com account.
Kahnawà:ke has a program of its own. The Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission runs self-exclusion for all KGC-licensed land-based venues, such as Playground. It is separate from the Loto-Québec program. A request to revoke it is not considered before 6 months.
